As a business owner, you know the importance of effective management for every aspect of your daily operations. When it comes to producing quality goods and services, you also know that you must be able to depend upon your employees to be at work every day on time. Unfortunately, employee tardiness is a common problem for many business owners. While your employee may not realize it, their tardiness can jeopardize the entire company by putting additional strain on the other employees. If you have a problem with employees who cannot arrive to work on time, then you will need to take the following measures to correct the situation.

Every business owner should have a written document that can be used to establish the standards for employee behavior. Generally, the rules should be outlined in an employee handbook or other type of document that employees can use as a reference. By establishing your company’s standards from the very beginning, you can reduce the incidences of employee tardiness. For those employees who continue to be late, a formal meeting should be held during which a manager explains the consequences for chronic tardiness. This may range from docked pay to termination. By making it clear that punctuality is important in your workplace, you will be able to encourage your employees to be at work on time.

A money market account can be a wise investment for a business. This type of account can help any business maintain cash on hand or to invest any surplus. If you do want to open an account, here are four tip to help you out.

Learn About the Pros and Cons
There are a variety of pros and cons with money market accounts. Every business will have to consider these before they decide on the right type of account for them. Because each business has different needs, you will want to think in both the short term and long term for pros and cons.

Consider Your Options
If you still want a money market account, look at all of the options available from different banks. This will help you understand which bank is offering a higher interest rate and which one has options that meet your needs.

Decide What You Will Invest
You will want to determine how much money you will initially invest and what future deposits will be.

Open the Account
Once you have weighed all your options and decided on the account is right for you, contact the bank and open your business money market account.

You might have noticed companies recently making the move to social media. Toyota has started their own Facebook page, television networks have their own Twitter pages and recording artists and actors even have their own MySpace pages. It makes logical sense when you think about – what do most people spend most of their time doing online? They visit their various forms of social media. That’s where the people are and that’s where the money is, which is why, if you want your business to thrive and succeed too you need to make the jump from conventional advertising to social media.

For example, let’s say you needed to find a way to market for t1internet.net or the like, it doesn’t really matter – this is hypothetical. You might try starting up a Facebook page to target all the people who aren’t satisfied with their current internet service or you could start a Twitter page that documents and headlines key events and developments in your company. By doing this, you would be reaching out to millions of potential customers and it might not even cost you a penny in the long run, which is a far cry from what any major advertising firm would charge.

The more you know about printing costs the less you’ll have to rely on the print shop sales rep to tell you what you should be buying. Here are a few tips to help you save:

-One thing you can do is shop around when considering your print shop. They vary in prices and depending on how much you print and how many colors you actually need, you may have been buying unnecessary items.

-Another tip is to use standard sized pages because the shops can only order paper in limited sizes. If you have an odd sized page, for example, they have to order bigger paper, then cut it to fit the rest of the sheets in your newsletter.This/tag helps explain it more. It ends up costing you, the customer, more.

-The whiter the paper, the higher the price, so get just what you need. This also applies to the weight, the heavier it is the more costly it’ll be. Also think about price when considering coating.

-Avoid bleeds. The shop has to buy bigger paper for that too.

-Finally, you should simply just ask the printer how you can save. Changing one small thing on your order can keep extra change in your pocket.

1. Do it yourself. This works if your business is relatively small, you are not intimidated by numbers, and you are thorough in recording every financial transaction.

2. Get bookkeeping software, whether for yourself or for a paid bookkeeper. It reduces time, and therefore money, spent on this function. Free low-end programs are available if your transactions are not too complicated, and ones with more features are reasonably priced. Look into online software if more than one person will be entering data.

3. Use online banking where possible. Not only does it reduce the cost of postage and checks, but it is faster and easier to correct errors as they occur. Often banking information can be downloaded directly into your bookkeeping program, saving even more time.

4. Use a contract bookkeeper rather than hiring someone just for bookkeeping. The hourly rate will be higher, but you will not have to pay all the taxes and fringe benefits associated with an employee.

5. Never completely trust any bookkeeper, including yourself. Everyone makes mistakes, even banks, so a second pair of eyes is invaluable. In addition, many otherwise good people can be tempted to embezzle when faced with serious personal financial problems. The information party rocks on: Bookkeeping sucks.

Accountant costs can be expensive but there are ways to save money on them.

1. Make sure that all data entry/bookkeeping is NOT performed by an Accountant. Data entry and bookkeeping take time and there aren’t many ways around it. Would you rather pay an Accountant 30 an hour or a bookkeeper 12-15/hr?

2. Shop around for an Accountant. Compare and contrast various Accountants to find the best value.

3. Ask for referrals from other business owners.

4. Hire an Accountant based on the function you want them to perform. A CPA might have knowledge in tax savings but they are not necessarily experts in it.

5. Interview potential Accountants just like you would interview a potential employee. You need to know what value they bring to the table.

6. Look for an Accountant that include various services in their fixed costs. Accountants might only offer to file your taxes based on information you give them and they may not tell you whether or not something looks incorrect in your accounting system.

7. Make a budget and stick to it. You know what you can afford.

8. Always ask questions. Make sure you know what you will be getting for your money.

“Business has only two functions – marketing and innovation.’

Milan Kundera

If you want to expand your vision and business to reach higher levels in growth and prosperity, you have to concentrate on marketing and promotional tasks instead of just sales alone. Why? Whereas sales is a very important element for the producing of monetary growth for your business, it is the marketing and the promoting that will garner increasing interest in your business, further drawing customers and clients to not only utilize your services, but for those same customers and clients to help promote your business through referrals. Here are eight ways to promote and market your business at a low cost.

1. Back a charity or cause. Not only will this endear you to the local business community because of your generous heart, but charities and causes will gratefully display your business to everyone, marketing you as the one to choose because of your kindness. This is especially beneficial when supporting a fund raising event; take this opportunity to logo yourself allover the event on place cards, posters, gift bags, etc.

2. Create a business blog and/or newsletter. Not only is this a great marketing idea to market yourself as an expert on all things concerning your business, services or products, it’s practically free. All that is needed is a computer for your blog, or a computer and some paper for your newsletter.

3. Put out press releases. If you are going to be participating in a business expo, a seminar, or a fund raiser, especially as a presenter or a speaker, send out press releases and invite a journalist or two to show up.

4. Place an advertising sign on the side of your vehicle. Get family and friends involved by offering monetary or free gifts incentives for those who bring in the most business.

5. Get on the news. Call your local news station and ask how to become a story feature on the morning broadcast.

6. Proclaim and publish yourself. Create fliers, business cards and calendars and pass them out, especially at business expos. Write a book. If you happen to have expertise in your particular industry, consider writing a book about what you know. Remember, this takes time. While you are doing these other things, gather your information and write, write, write.

7. Throw a raffle and drawing. Have one of your products or a service be the prize for the blessed winner.

8. Sponsor an organization or a cause. Sponsor a cheer leading squad, a basketball team, an event, or the clean up of a place. Make sure that your logo is allover the place, and put yourself out there as a speaker for hire. People will be ready to consider you for events, which will lead to more queries about who you are and what you do.
